Biking

We recently started taking up biking. Kansas City is an awesome place for it. There are a lot of trails that currently connect different parts of the city and surround suburbs. I will be blogging a lot more about it soon since I am going to start joining group rides around the city. Until then, here is a pic of my new ride.

The move to Kansas City

Well, we finally made the big move. After help from our amazing friends and family, we managed to get everything packed up and loaded. I feel like we could have been on an episode of hoarders. It's amazing how much you can accumulate over a year. We managed to fill up a 6x12 Uhaul, the Pathfinder, the Corolla, and a Highlander. We even had to leave a few things behind. So after a crazy night of packing and loading, we headed for KC around 9 a.m. Phoebe and her Mom went ahead because Chuck and I soon realized there was no way we were going to be able to go more than 55 mph while pulling the trailer due to it starting to fishtail around 60 mph. I knew we were in for a long drive. The drive up 169 was very pretty however. After a long 7 1/2 hour drive we made it!! Driving in crazy traffic while not being able to go over 55 was crazy. Upon arriving to Kansas City, I received a call from Stephen Mattingley, Associate Pastor @ Linden Baptist Church, and he informed me that he had a crew ready and willing to help us unload. They were a Godsend. What took us about 1 1/2 hours to unload would have probably taken us 3 or 4 hours going up and down the stairs. After unloading and feeling somewhat overwhelmed, we went and ate at Tommy's which was awesome. With a full stomach a long day behind us we were ready to get some sleep, after a trip to Wal-Mart of course :) Phoebe headed to bed and I had to finish getting the necessities up and running (surround sound and TV). I managed to get 2 digital channels without bunny ears.

After a good nights rest, we woke up and went to Linden Baptist Church. The people there were great. The church was much smaller than Trinity, but it was a good Sunday morning. We are looking to try out a few more churches throughout the next couple of months in hope of finding a new church home.

Our apartment is great. It has carpet, a dishwasher, is much bigger, and we have drywall!!!! I have been taking some picture of the progress and will post more soon. Here are a few until then.

Camera and Bluray Player Review

So I just recently purchased a Canon SD1300 IS digital camera and for Christmas I got a Sony BDP-S570 Bluray player. Here are my findings:

Canon SD1300 IS
Once again, Canon has made a great product. This is a fantastic point and shoot camera for under $125. The image quality is great and the camera has a lot of features for people who like to make adjustments. The video quality is decent, but to be expected since it is only VGA quality. Since I already have my SLR cameras, it is a great point and shoot for me and the wifey. I give the camera a B+

Sony BDP-S570

So my Mom hooked us up with a Bluray player for Christmas. Originally we got a Magnavox Bluray player. The image quality was great and it had built in wi-fi, but it was extremely slow and the menu was hard to navigate. I decided to take it back and upgrade to the Sony. It was a wise choice. The quality and functionality of the Sony player is excellent. If you have a Netflix account, you will love it. The quality and interface for the application is amazing. It has a really quick start up to play time. the wi-fi works great and Sony has an app for the iPhone that allows you to control the player from your iPhone. This a great choice for under $150. A+

Our First Christmas

Our first Christmas. Well actually, our first Christmas we ever spent together was last year. We were engaged and decided the holidays would be a great time to meet the whole family. I (Phoebe) had never done 3 Christmases in 1 day. It was a marathon! That was Christmas Eve. It took us about 30 min to go about 6 miles in the giant snow storm and I ended up sick and snowed in on Christmas day. But alas, we made it to Ardmore the next day!

So on to this year! We again accomplished 3 Christmases on Christmas Eve in the Schulter/Henryetta area with Jeff's family. Next we trecked down to Ardmore as planned were we spent Christmas day with my family. I did not get to feel my niece-to-be kick, but other than that it was grand! So Sunday it was our turn to do our own little Christmas. I think its important to establish our own personal traditions. So we did awesome stockings. Jeff got me a super pretty journal and I got him a dragon!!!

Well, a dragon figurine anyway. After watching How to Train Your Dragon, Jeff wanted a night fury...so I got him one!

We received many excellent gifts this year. And I am so grateful for them. But my favorite tradition we've started is the tradition of giving. (Yes, I realize the semi-cheesyness of that statement). However, we decided to adopt a foster care child to give gifts. Our church throws a huge party for all the foster care kids in our town and the church members buy the gifts. We got a super cool nerf gun and ammo for a 12 year old boy (Jeff picked it out).

So our first married Christmas was pretty wonderful. I'm still not completely sure how all of Jeff's family is related to him. I'm not sure if I'll ever get it straight. But I love his extended family Christmas! We were able to start some personal traditions and keep with the spirit of the season.
